Easy weekend DIY: Stylish swim wrap

Getting ready for spring break?  I sure am!  And, I have no idea what swimsuit I am going to wear since I haven’t exactly lost the weight I had hoped for…yet.  So, when I found this easy DIY beach wrap on Pinterest, I thought this would be the perfect solution.  It’s made with only 1 yard of fabric and it’s so simple!  You can do this in a day.

And, here’s the full tutorial: http://www.brit.co/turn-any-yard-of-fabric-into-a-chic-beach-wrap/

I’m actually really liking the orange color, so I’m hoping to find a swimsuit-like fabric in this same color at the fabric store today.  Once I have completed this wrap (with the help of my mom, of course, because I cannot sew to save my life), I’ll share more photos!

UPDATE:  Here’s my swim wrap, complete!

Other notes to add about the tutorial –

I am not experienced with sewing at all, and the tutorial is a little vague with measurements.  So, here’s what I can tell you.  First off,  we cut the material down to 31 inches wide.  We used the scrap to make the shoulder straps.  Each strap started out as 1.5 inches wide and 30 inches long.  The finished width of the straps was about a half inch, and we cut the length down to fit my shoulders.  At each top corner, we folded over 4 inches of fabric, and created a 3/4-inch wide pocket (aka “casing”) for the strap to slide through.  You can also use a safety pin to feed the straps through the casing (that’s how grandma taught us! lol). The only other thing I can add is that I bought a total of 1 and 1/8 yard of fabric to allow a little extra room for my prego belly!

Total cost was about $15 (with a 40% off coupon at JoAnn’s)

If you have any other questions or comments about this wrap, please post them below and I’ll respond as quick as I can!
